  • Generally we spend the first half of our time together discussing how you feel and what you would like help with. In order to see the full picture I will have lots of questions and our intake will be thorough.

As practitioner it is my job to listen to all you have to say, dig deeper to understand the nuances of what is playng out in your body and discern what can be done to help you heal using acupuncture, herbs, diet, exercise and lifestyle changes.

After intake and discussion we will do acupuncture. Shoes and socks off. Most often patients like on their back, I select points appropriate to your condition and swab with alcohol, then place needles. They stay in place for 20-30 minutes while you rest on the massage table after which they are removed and disposed.

We will discuss diet and lifestyle. I like to teach what I see.

If appropriate, I may recommend an herbal remedy. This prescription is ordered online through a traditional herbal pharmacy and will be shipped to your door. Pediatric and adult cold and flu, and common home medicine cabinet remedies may be prescribed and purchased in office.

  • This is a very common question!

Occasionally patients will feel a point, sometimes they feel nothing. There are two reactions. Sometimes there can be a slight pinch from the needle. More often you can feel a qi sensation at the point. This can feel like pressure or heaviness or a warm spreading sensation. These sensations can come and go during a treatment. What you feel at a point can be diagnostic so feel free to let me know what you feel. If these sensations are uncomfortable to you, let me know and we likely can adjust them.

I am needle shy myself and completely understand when someone is nervous about needles. My colleagues always said I was so gentle in my needling that I became the go to for all those who were needle shy. If you are nervous please let me know so I can walk you through it slowly with your feedback. In rare cases patients prefer not to receive needles at all. If this is you, don’t worry! We have plenty of other tools to use to help you heal without the use of needles.

  • It depends!

Some symptoms are treated and respond quickly. In these cases you may need 3-5 treatments and be on your way.

Some symptoms or patterns are deeply engrained and take a long time to reverse or heal. In these cases regular weekly or over other treatments are necessary for success.

In general I try to create a treatment plan with an expectation of what will be acheived in what span of time. In some cases acupuncture sessions can be spaced out while using herbs diet and lifestyle changes to carry the treatment.

Our modalities

  • Acupuncture

There are roughtly 350 points found along 14 channels and 8 extraordinary channels. Each channel wraps around its resective organ system then travels outwards along the limbs and becomes accessible at numerous points to influence the organ and its various functions. The tissues, tendons and muscle trains influence all of which effect spirit senses and function related to the organ system

  • Herbs

Herbs are used when diet is no longer strong enough to balance the body on its own. Herbs typically come as a grouping or formula of various herbs which work synergistically to create positive change within your body. These raw herbs can be boiled and consumed as a tea, or with our modern busy lives they can be prescribed as pill, capsules, granules or tinctures.

  • Diet

We have all heard the expression “You are what you eat".” Healing through diet is a powerful tool towards creating health. Food is medicine. Eating healthy does not have to be complicated, tiring, boring or expensive. Food should be inspiring, easy, and satisfying. Diet changes must be easy, match your lifestyle and habits traditions. Unless you request otherwise, my diet advice is as minimal as possible with the least distruption necessary for change. Sometimes the most effective solutions are incredibly simple shifts.

Feel free to bring a diet log of 3+ days. This should include time, description and approximate amounts. Feel free to include symptoms, thoughts, emotions or events of the day. If you are keeping a log, please dont eat healthy for me! The more of an honest picture I see, the better our work will be.

  • Exercise

Our bodies are meant to be in motion. Not only is health is intricately linked to how we exercise, on the flip side how our body is able to move is intricately linked to how we feel and what patterns of health or disease exist in our bodies. In other words, our bodies reflect our state of health physically. As with diet and lifestyle, it is important to create a balanced physical state to keep all of our organ systems and mind strong and flexible.

I frequently make exercise and mobility recommendatios for my patients to address health from all angles.

  • Lifestyle

In a world of predetermined emotions and faces presented to the outside world, who are we underneath?

What does it mean to be your authentic self and be accepted, or simply accept yourself?

Who are we and who do we want to be?

What do we do to nourish and connect to and accept ourselves and others?

How do we find mental health and peace?

How do we find mental clarity? inner calm?

How do we stay tethered to reality?

How do we make sure our daily life not only keeps us on course towards a healthy life in a very practical sort of way, but also fullfills who we are and who we want to be?
